Happy Birthday.
“Hello Pete. Fancy a beer tomorrow?” the cheerful voice of his mate who had come to the door in the middle of some intense present wrapping.
“Tomorrow!? You do know it’s Christmas Day tomorrow?” Pete knew he sounded tired and exasperated.
“Yeah, I know. But it is my birthday, and I was hoping you might want to come out,” his mate sounded a bit pathetic.
“Nobody goes out on Christmas Day. I have the wife’s family over for Christmas lunch. That’s enough to cope with, without your idea of going out,” Pete explained his predicament.
“Come on. I would have thought you would be glad of a few hours away from the in-laws. Chance for a couple of cheeky beers, while they do the clearing up,” his mate was making it sound quite appealing the more Pete thought about it.
“This happens every year, why is this year different?” Pete asked.
“I just never get to celebrate my birthday, while everyone else does. I’m not asking a lot, just a couple of drinks, then home I promise,” the hook was in.
Pete thought about it and smiled. “See you at 7pm tomorrow and………”, he paused.
“Happy Birthday for tomorrow!”
Jesus smiled
